We’re Here To Answer Your Questions
Here’s where we answer the most common questions with clarity and care.
How can physiotherapy help?
At St. Helens Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic, we will take a detailed history including information about your symptoms and how they occurred.
Your Chartered Physiotherapist will then examine your spine and related areas such as your hips. (you will need to be suitably undressed a pair of shorts is
ideal or a loose skirt for a lady). Following the examination, the physiotherapist will give you an explanation about your symptoms and any contributing factors such as mal-adaptive postures, poor muscle control or joint stiffness. A specific and individual treatment plan will then be devised and you will be given the opportunity to discuss this.
Treatments available include manipulation, acupuncture for pain relief, specific exercises to mobilise or improve the control and stability of the spine. We aim to treat the underlying cause of your symptoms and to provide you with exercises and information that will help to keep further problems at bay.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Only occasionally do our patients experience discomfort.
In most cases, patients do not even notice that the needle has been inserted. Acupuncture needles measure only 1/100th inch in diameter so are hardly noticeable.
Are the needles sterile?
The needles used in this clinic are
single use only and are disposed of in a sharps box that is provided by
and changed by the local council. Needles are NEVER used again. The clinic has a license which is granted by St. Helens Council and all staff who are acupuncture trained also have individual licenses.
Can I have acupuncture if I am a blood donor?
All of the physiotherapists practising acupuncture at St Helens Physiotherapy are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. We are able to provide blood donor certificates
which are accepted by the Blood Transfusion Service to allow you to give blood after acupuncture treatment. If you require a certificate, please ask your physiotherapist.
